Become a member of the
Winlaw Watershed Committee

The Winlaw Watershed Committee (WWC) is a registered society under the BC Societies Act. We welcome new members who are interested in better understanding our watershed – what has happened in the past, conditions at present, and possible future endeavours. Activities of the society have evolved considerably since incorporation. We’ve come a long way from the years of researching and campaigning to fend off plans for industrial scale logging under the former tenure holder. The attainment of a Community Forest License, and thus control over forestry in our own backyards is a huge achievement, gained by banding together with other water user groups facing similar threats. Instead of the Ministry of Forests and big industrial corporations, we now hold the tenure ourselves as SIFCo (Slocan Integral Forestry Cooperative), an organization we created to manage our forestry from a watershed-based perspective. The WWC is a founding Member Group of SIFCo. Today we elect or appoint two of our members to be part of the SIFCo board, along with two people from each of EACT (Elliot Anderson Christian Trozzo water users), and RMRA (Red Mountain Residents Association. There is a seventh ‘at large’ board member. Other activities/projects we may undertake will result from the interests and energy of our members. Building awareness of the Riparian Corridor would be a good one.
